BIOGRAPHY: Lt Asim was born in Mandi Bahauddin on 25th March 1980. He Carried out his education with great zeal. He was married shortly after finishing his Military School training.

Career: Lt Asim served as a ‘Corporal Technician‘ in Pakistan Air Force at Chaklala Air Base, Before joining the Pakistan Army.

Lt Asim’s relentless hard work and dream to serve his country brought him to join Pakistan Army in the year 2006 through a graduate course.

Key Achievements:

2007: Almost immediately upon joining the Pakistan Army, he served in Congo on a special UN Mission with his unit. He spent a year serving there valiantly and his discipline in this mission was exemplary.

2008: Lt Asim came back to attend a special course at Infantry School Quetta.

2009: Lt Asim was deployed in the Swat area, along with the Pakistan Army troops who were fighting at the front. He continued his gallantry in the face of the enemy on multiple occasions.

Lt Asim was demonstrating exceptional skill in the strategic decisions during live missions on the ground, playing a pivotal role as an ex-airman, to direct the supporting air wing of the Pakistan Army.

He provided the ‘Army Air wing’ with terrain identification and targeting information with great precision, hence enabling the ‘Army Air wing’ to be able to target the enemy swiftly during some important operations. This skill alone made him invaluable among his fellow soldiers. Lt Asim Iqbal also applied this ability well and was pivotal in saving many lives including some of his comrades.

Pakistan Army‘s Operations were successful due to such great contributions of every soldier against the terrorists in Swat and soon, the terrorists were forced to plead to a Ceasefire and a Peace Agreement with the Government of Pakistan.

This Peace Agreement was applied effectively on February 16, 2009, in Swat District.

Shahadat: On the Mid Night of 3 and 4 of May 2009, Lt Asim was tasked to lead the convoy of the Pakistan Army Contingent from ‘Malakand Fort‘. Lt Asim was taking his convoy towards ‘Kanju‘.

Lt Asim was in the first vehicle of the convoy. He was guiding the way from the seat next to the driver.

This convoy got into an ambush by the terrorists near Brikot.

The first bullet gets fired from a sniper’s rifle from a distance by terrorists hiding in the dark. This bullet hit Lt Asim.

He embraced martyrdom immediately.

This incident was the key turning point in the swat operation. The ‘Peace Agreement’ was unquestionably broken. Now, the Pakistan Army began the new offensive in Swat valley, known as Operation ‘Rah-e-Rast’. This final battle continued with full force until the complete restoration of Peace in the swat valley.

During this operation, The terrorist who had fired upon Lt Asim Iqbal (Shaheed) was avenged successfully by the Pakistan Army and during a special operation, brought this criminal to a swift logical end.

Lt Asim Iqbal (Shaheed) was buried with Full Military Honors in his Historic Native Town in Tehsil Phalia District Mandi Bahauddin.
